Excel Tip – Get Day Name from Date

In Microsoft Excel, if you need to get the day name (i.e. Monday, Tuesday, etc.) from a date, here are three ways to do so:

Excel Formula Output
=Text(“1/1/2016”, “dddd”) Friday
=Text(“1/1/2016”, “ddd”) Fri
=Choose(Weekday(“1/1/2016”), “Sunday”, “Monday”, “Tuesday”, “Wednesday”, “Thursday”, “Friday”, “Saturday”) Friday
