Windows Live Hotmail Limits Explained

img_33742_microsoft-windows-live-logo_450x360For a free Windows Live Hotmail account, the maximum size for an attachment is 10 MB.  For a paid Windows Live Hotmail account, the maximum size for an attachment is 20 MB.  The size limit includes the message, encoding, and the attachment, if you added one.

Since the issue starts at 800KB, the file size should be at the proper limitations, however, Windows Live Hotmail doesn’t support all file types.  Your operating system, firewall, or other software may also cause additional file types to be blocked.

If you would click on the help button from your hotmail account and in the search field type “Why can’t I download or send attachments?” you will find the information on what file types will be blocked from being sent.   Be certain the file types are not on the list.

Also, in that same help document it shows information involving Compressing a file, Saving a file as a different extension and other options for sending data that may not be on the attachment type to send list.
